김기평 기자 /여성 역량 강화 분야의 글로벌 선도기업 메리케이(Mary Kay Inc.)가 ‘여성 창업의 발전: 약속에서 행동으로(Advancing Women’s Entrepreneurship: from Commitment to Action)’라는 제목의 특별 보고서 발간을 발표했다. 이 보고서는 획기적인 여성 창업 액셀러레이터(Women’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator, WEA)라는 다중 이해관계자 파트너십을 설립한 이후 4년 동안 회사가 이룬 진전을 통해 전 세계 여성의 대의를 지원해 온 꾸준한 노력을 자세히 설명한다.

2019년, 메리케이는 6개 유엔 기관과 협력하여 전 세계 여성의 창업과 경제 참여를 촉진하기 위한 원동력으로서 WEA를 설립했다. 2023년 특별 보고서에서는 WEA의 다양한 플래그십 프로그램과 영향력 통계를 자세히 설명하며 여성 기업가들이 직면한 핵심 과제를 해결하기 위한 WEA의 글로벌 영향력과 독특한 접근 방식을 강조한다.

메리케이의 최고운영책임자인 데보라 기빈스(Deborah Gibbins)는 “여성 창업 액셀러레이터를 통해 우리는 전 세계 여성들의 창업을 지원할 뿐만 아니라 이를 기념하는 강력한 플랫폼을 구축했다”며 “2030년까지 5백만 명의 여성에게 역량을 부여하는 것이 우리의 목표이며, 현재까지 순조롭게 진행되고 있다. 지금까지 60만여 명의 여성이 프로그램과 활동에 참여했으며, 2024년은 또 한 번 역사적인 해로 입증될 것”이라고 전했다.
